High Level Political Forum 2024 – India Side Event
UNDP in collaboration with NITI Aayog, the Permanent Mission of India (PMI) to the UN, and the UN in India, organised a side event at the HLPF ((https://hlpf.un.org/2024)) on Leaving No One Behind: India’s Experience in Accelerating SDGs (16 July 13:15 EDT/ 16 July 23:00 IST). HLPF is the annual UN HQ convening of member states on the global and national review of progress on the SDGs. The side event will focus on India’s SDG localisation initiatives, with a focus on the Aspirational Blocks and Districts Programme and present the results from the SDG India Index 2023-24.
Kanni Wignaraja, UN Assistant Secretary-General and Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, represented UNDP at the event. The side event was designed to showcase India’s efforts to ensure last mile delivery for localization of SDGs, featuring initiatives undertaken by NITI Aayog and sub-national governments such as Aspirational Districts and Blocks Programme. The event also witnessed the international launch of the SDG India Index 2024 report (https://bit.ly/4cYopPr) which highlights the ‘Indian Model of SDG Localization’ that played a crucial role in embracing the 2030 Agenda, a journey marked by continuous learning and adaptation. The first global preview of the learning video of ABP and ADP also happened during the event on how India is accelerating its sustainable development by focusing on targeted last mile delivery to serve as a replicable canvas for countries advancing towards achievement of the Global Goals.
