Sustainable Development Goals
What are the SDGs?
The SDGs represent a collective and ambitious development framework for sustained economic progress that involves all the people while also safeguarding the environment. They are a collection of 17 interlinked global goals designed to provide a shared blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future.
Â
The goals were adopted by all 193 Member States of the United Nations in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development to ensure peace and prosperity for people and the planet. The goals recognise the need for reducing poverty, improving healthcare and education levels, expanding basic infrastructure provisions and economic growth, reducing inequalities, conserving biodiversity, and building partnerships to attain sustainable development as per the guidelines of Agenda 2030.
The goals cut across three interdependent sectors: economic, socio-political, and environmental, and progress is measured through multidisciplinary outcome and implementation targets.
