About Us

UNDP works in almost 170 countries and territories, helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion, while protecting the planet. As the development arm of the UN System, UNDP supports countries in their efforts to realize the 2030 Agenda. In India, UNDP has been performing the role of integrator of SDGs for the UN system at the national and sub-national level working with State Governments, private sector, civil society and UN partners.

Knowledge management has been one of the driving forces behind the innovative solutions that cut across stakeholders including government, academia, corporations and non-profits and sectors like healthcare, social protection, and livelihoods in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic has amplified the need to establish and scale up virtual networks for knowledge exchange, while also accelerating the use of digital technologies for enhancing the knowledge eco-system.

Through this knowledge platform, UNDP aims to enable knowledge sharing using a communicative and transformative process of shared learning. The platform will place the experience of different stakeholders in a shared virtual library for others to learn and gain from. This national knowledge sharing network for SDGs will encourage better evidence informed policy making to help ensure that India remains on track to achieve the 2030 Agenda.

UNDP Seoul Policy Centre

  • Knowledge exchange is a crucial dimension of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The UNDP Seoul Policy Centre (USPC) for Knowledge Exchange through SDG Partnerships is facilitating global knowledge exchange through various forms of innovative and tested-and-proven policy solutions in several thematic areas.

  • USPC focuses on facilitating dynamic and concrete knowledge exchange between the Republic of Korea and the developing world, as well as among developing countries and among OECD countries and with South-South Cooperation providers. Its areas of “SDG Partnerships consist of (i) governance, (ii) resilience, and (iii) development cooperation.

  • Through SDG Partnerships, USPC is seeking a unique role to sharpen global debates on knowledge exchange with a very close link to concrete development challenges in partner countries. In the context of India, USPC has shared knowledge on SDG localization and has partially financed the digital platform responsible for its facilitation.

State Governments play a critical role in endorsing the agenda of “leaving no one behind” and localising the SDGs. The state governments are responsible for formulating the State Indicator Framework (SIF) and leading the way for the development of the District Indicator Framework (DIF) and Local Indicator Framework (LIF). As a key knowledge partner, UNDP has collaborated with multiple State Governments in India to construct their respective Indicator Frameworks to meet Agenda 2030 and ensure sustainable growth for all. UNDP also provides technical assistance to these sub-national governments in implementing development projects and innovative initiatives to promote SDGs across the state.

MoSPI

  • The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) is the nodal agency for the planned and organized development of a robust statistical system in the country as well as coordination of statistical activities among different stakeholders in the Government of India, the State Governments and various international development agencies.

  • The Ministry is also entrusted with the statistical tracking of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in India. MoSPI regularly assess the quality of statistics currently available on the SDGs to identify data gaps and disseminate relevant information on social, environment and multi-domain statistics.
